Power and data signalling circuits are vunerable to high voltages and transients. In applications where these circuits are run externally to buildings, lightning and other influences can be induced into these cables causing damage and system failure.

The Elsafe design concept has been recognised by the Australian Design Awards 2001 for engineering excellence and it is this system, on which the SAM have been based. Elsafe has worked closely with Queensland Rail, NSW Rail, Westinghouse and Union Switch & Signal in the design and application of these modules for railway protection products, process control, water technology plants and general signalling circuits.
